Staying safe

Matrimonial fraud is a practised trade, not bad luck. Here is what we do about it and what you should watch for.

What we do

  • Your number is not on your profile. Contact details live where the database will not hand them out without an unlock you agreed to.
  • Photographs are watermarked with the viewer. Anyone who screenshots your picture is carrying their own account identifier in it, so a leak can be traced back.
  • Phone numbers are stripped from messages. The first thing a scammer does is move you to WhatsApp. Our messaging removes numbers, emails and social handles before delivery.
  • Verification badges mean something. Phone, selfie-against-photo, and document checks are shown separately so you can see exactly what was confirmed.
  • Blocking is silent and mutual. A blocked person vanishes from your search, messages and viewers, and is never told.

The scripts to expect

Move this to WhatsApp

Within the first few messages, before you know anything about them. Off our platform there is no moderation, no report button and no record. Stay here until you are genuinely comfortable.

An emergency needing money

A medical bill, customs holding a gift, a visa fee, a stuck salary. Nobody you have not met needs your money. There is no version of this that is real.

Abroad, and always unable to video call

Excellent job overseas, deep interest in you, camera permanently broken. Ask for a live video call early. A refusal that keeps being explained is the answer.

Hurry, and no families

Pressure to decide quickly, and reasons why your families should not speak yet. Real proposals in this community involve families early and are not in a rush.

Before you meet

  • Video call first. Once, at least.
  • Involve your family, the way you would anyway.
  • Meet somewhere public, in daylight, the first time.
  • Tell someone where you are going and when you will be back.
  • Arrange your own transport, both ways.

If something goes wrong

Use Report on the profile — it carries the conversation with it, so nobody makes you explain twice. Serious cases reach a person within 24 hours. You can also contact our grievance officer directly.

For anything criminal, report at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930. Tell us as well, so we can remove the account.
